My other fields of focus include all Trauma Reconstructive Surgery, Skin Lesions, Breast Reconstruction and I have a special interest in Congenital Hand Surgery. I also work as the Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Congenital Hand Unit at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Rondebosch, Cape Town.

I also enjoy treating all types of wound and scar conditions ranging through diabetic problems, burns and vasculopathies.

As a Cape Town Plastic Surgeon I am fortunate to be able to revel in the active lifestyle that only this unique city can offer and regularly enjoy surfing, kite-boarding, rock climbing, sailing and paddling.”

Dr. Mark van der Velde – Cape Town Plastic Surgery

As a Professional I have the following to offer:

  • All-encompassing honest communication: I pride myself in being a good judge of character. I believe the understanding of a patient’s motivation for surgery helps me to help them make the right choices. If I feel that a procedure is inappropriate, I won’t operate; instead I’ll give advice on a more appropriate course of action.
  • Tried and tested safe surgical procedures: I am wary of the “Fantastic New Procedure!”, until surgical science and time have proven the procedure worthy.
  • I don’t cut corners to cut cost: I work with highly professional Anaesthesiologists in approved operating theatres.
  • A networking system for difficult or unusual cases: The Cape Town Plastic Surgeons enjoy regular consultation with each other about problem cases (with the patient’s consent). This ensures the best clinical outcome.
