Migraine Surgery

Up until recently, surgical procedures for migraine patients was fairly unsuccessful. This is because, the anatomy of the multitude of potential nerve compression trigger points was poorly understood.

Those patients who regularly have migraines that start in one specific point could find relief or improvement after surgery to relieve that sensory nerve. A nerve can be entrapped by muscle, fascia or bone; or even develop mechanical inflammation when in very close proximity to an artery.

To be considered for surgery, migraine sufferers must have been officially diagnosed and worked up for migraines by a neurologist. Patients who might find benefit are those who are intolerant of traditional medications and those whose migraines are causing regular disability.

Migraine Surgery is now offered at Cape Town Mediclinic.
