What is Ear Reshaping?
Ear reshaping surgery, also known as otoplasty, is a procedure designed to improve the shape, size, or position of the external ears. This procedure addresses congenital ear conditions, aesthetic corrections, or injury reconstructions.
Children with congenital ear anomalies are, unfortunately, exposed to ridicule by their peers. This can manifest as a lack of self-confidence and an unwillingness to take part in social activities. By operating on the cartilage framework I can gain what is aesthetically the norm. I operate through small incisions and incisions behind the ear for minimal scarring.
This surgery has very satisfactory results and the scars are well hidden.
How Otoplasty Enhances Appearance
- Results are immediately visible. Bandages are only occasionally needed.
- Reduces the prominence of ears that stick out, with scars that are well hidden.
- Creates symmetry for uneven ears
What is involved in the Ear Reshaping Procedure?
Otoplasty is performed under either local or general anaesthetic. The procedure involves:
1 | Incisions
- I will make an incision at the back of the ear and expose the cartilage.
2 | Cartilage Reshaping
- The cartilage will be reshaped and stitched into position. This will leave a faint scar behind the ear that will fade in time.
3 | Securing the Ear
- The internal stitches used are usually permanent to keep the cartilage in place.
