What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure designed to improve the visible signs of aging in the neck and jawline. Excess skin and fat is removed and skin is “tightened”. A neck lift can also either remove or tighten muscle banding in the neck to smooth contours.
How a Neck Lift Enhances The Facial Profile
- The results are a smoother younger looking neck with less sagging skin and creases.
- It can also remove the double chin or turkey neck effect and heavy jowls and lines.
- This procedure does not affect the face area but rather the area below, it is often combined with a deep plane facelift.
Aging will continue but the appearance of your neck will be significantly improved.
What is involved in the Neck Lift procedure?
A neck lift is performed under general anaesthetic. The procedure involves:
1 | Incision Placement
- I will make the type of incision to suit the procedure. This could be in the small crease under your chin only, or this combined with a facelift type incision, around the ears and back towards the hairline.
2 | Tissue and Muscle Adjustment
- Through the incisions, I may tighten the platysma muscle, sculpt or reposition fat, and address prominent submandibular glands to create a smoother and more defined contour.
3 | Skin Redraping
- The skin is carefully redraped over the newly contoured areas, and any excess skin is removed.
- The incisions are then closed with precision to minimise visible scarring.
