Regain your pre-pregnancy body
If you are considering a mommy makeover but are feeling guilty about it, don’t! You deserve to take back control of your body and regain your pre-baby confidence. Pregnancy can cause dramatic changes to your body and it’s not always possible to bounce back with exercise and diet alone. Sometimes only surgery can help you achieve your body goals.
The breast and tummy areas see the biggest changes after childbirth. The layers of skin, muscle and tissue on the abdomen that have stretched to accommodate the growing baby don’t always return to normal. Sometimes fat deposits have shifted to areas hard to treat without surgery. And breasts that have increased in size lose volume and sag when returning to normal.
A mommy makeover is a selection of procedures designed to reverse any long-lasting effects caused by pregnancy. Typically the most requested procedures are the tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast surgery (augmentation, lift, reduction or a combination) and liposuction but could also include others like the ever-popular eyelid lift surgery.
Best of all you can have these procedures all at once, this is what makes it such a popular choice for the busy mom. Yes, the recovery may be a bit more demanding than that of individual procedures, but it’s only one anaesthetic and one lot of recovery support to plan.
How do you know you’re ready?
- You have gone through childbirth (preferably your last) and had time to recover for at least 6 months or more. You aren’t planning more children.
- You have fully weaned your child. Hormones can cause changes in your body associated with breast feeding so wait at least 6 months after stopping.
- Your body weight is stable and you are generally in good health. You are as near to your pre-baby weight as you are likely to get (gaining and losing weight after surgery may undo all the good).
- You have time to dedicate to your recovery. Plan for a few weeks of restricted activity if any. You need to refrain from bending down, picking up children, being hugged too tightly, doing household chores and even driving for a bit. Make sure you have help around the house for at least 2 weeks.
- You are ready to commit to a healthy lifestyle, balanced diet and exercise routine to maintain the results.
- You have done your research and have realistic goals and expectations.
